Jay Pulliam - Wellness Editor

At my core, I am a both a writer and a dreamer. I am a lover of words and a lover of art. Currently, I am enrolled at Tuskegee University as a freshman English major (shocker) and I hope to minor in either Art or Psychology. I began writing in the fifth grade when I was given my very first journal, and I haven't stopped since. I have had article published in TeenInk's literary magazine and website, as well as on Disney Dreamers Academy's website. I am extremely honored and excited to begin working on She Speaks  as the editor of the "Health and Wellness" column. Writing is my passion and I look forward to sharing it!

Ashyn Nicols – Wellness Writer

My name is Ashtyn Nichols and my dream is to change the world. It may be a little ambitious for a sixteen year old, but I’ve already been blessed with a life filled with lessons preparing me for the future. When I was younger, I always dreamed of becoming a doctor, and still, it is my goal to become a child and adolescent psychiatrist. I have spent years preparing for the years that I will spend preparing for the years I will hopefully spend practicing medicine. In short, I am working very hard to make this dream a reality. Growing up with an autistic brother has allowed me the fortune of meeting some wonderful specialists. Sadly, it has also allowed me to see the specialists that don’t seem to be on their patient’s side. Being exposed to the special needs community has also opened my eyes to the numerous amazing opportunities, programs and treatments available to boost people’s health conditions and standards of living. But again, there are negative aspects. Becoming a psychiatrist will of course not solve all of the world’s problems, but that would be my way of changing the world in my own small way. I believe that if I can even help one family similar to mine then all of the work would have been paid off.Recently, I have discovered that I like journalism and marketing. I am currently involved in a mentorship program that teaches young women all about the world of journalism, writing and marketing. I am in a language and composition class and have been trying to write more for fun. Lately, I’ve been managing a website that I created for my school’s Key Club and try to regularly write articles to submit to the division bulletin. Writing does not come naturally to me; I have to practice and try to get better. That is why I am so thrilled to be a part of the She Speaks Media Enterprises.  Being a part of a project that allows young women to have their voice heard by the world is almost too amazing for words.
